sana (plural: siniin or sanawaat) – year

shuhuur is-sanat il-miilaadiyya – the months of the year ('miilaad' refers to the birth of Christ)

shuhuur is-sanat il-hijriyya – the months of the Islamic year

hijra is the flight of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) from Mecca (il-makkat il-mukarrama ) to Medina (il-madiinat il-munawwara ) in 622 A.D. The Islamic months are 29 or 30 days in length following the moon cycle. The year 2006 A.D. corresponds to roughly the last two months of 1426, and the first ten of 1427.
